Hi Sophia.
Very sorry for this extrremely late reply and the enormous fonts (not sure how that happened). Basically I upgraded from Ubunutu Server 13.10 to the desktop since I needed a more robust partitioner on my "real" hard drive. Possibly this was the problem - I haven't a clue about this possibilytt The server version was the latest daily as of the date of my original thread above. Perhaps I wasn't quite clear. WS TP installed with no problem, the GUI was completely functional as the TP license key was inserted from the CLI. I got the error message about VMCI driver no found (and it was not installed in /dev) when I attempted to power on the VM. WS would not proceed further.
I will try again and report back when I reinstall the Ubuntu Server (I want to dual boot with openSUSE 13.1 and that process is a bit daunting with 3 hard disks)
I know for certain that the build error has been reported several times on the production WS forum.
Hi againi Sophia:
The installation of VMware WS exp now completes successfully Ubuntu 13.10 kernel 3.9.0-6-generic build date 6/21/13. I can start testing VM's in this environment.
